Hi, we're Kelly and Claire!

We're local primary school teachers and mums with six children between us!

Kelly and Claire

As teachers, we know how important it is for students to be able to develop the skills they need for reading in order for them to be successful at school.

Children at a young age should learn through play and we believe our approach to teaching phonics will really benefit your child as they will not only learn the main letter sounds and digraphs (sh, ch, th etc), they will develop listening skills, hear and match sounds, as well as developing fine and gross motor skills through our different interactive activities.

Your children will be having so much fun, they won’t even know they are gaining key skills - giving them the best start for school.

Preschoolers (3-5 years old)

Currently, our classes are aimed at 3-5 yr olds - with the aim of equipping them with the skills needed to give them a head start when starting school.

Activities involve listening skills, sound recognition, oral blending and segmenting, alliteration and rhyming which are essential when reading and writing. There are games which improve their fine and gross motor skills which will also support writing.

Toddlers (18 months - 3 years)

We will be looking to expand our sessions to 18month - 3 yr olds in the coming future. There will be a stronger focus on sounds and rhyming as well as the usual fun and games. We will keep you posted!

3 key benefits of Funky Phonics classes

  1. Reading Skills - phonics is the proven method for teaching children to read. Our classes expose children to sounds in a systematic way, enabling them to develop the basics of reading.

  2. School Readiness – learning in a group environment with parent support, children will gain important skills such as rhyming, fine and gross motor skills, listening and working together.

  3. Confidence – early exposure to phonics provides confidence and a head start in your child’s literacy journey.
